just did another review of the videos, if you plan on doing something similar, I've got some screenshots below and suggestions on the best approach to grab something from a stationary spot.
the right approach, come down from up above and grabbing hand behind the control bar (making that face is also a must)
sketchy approach, come in hot, and low and grabbing hand in front of control bar[img][/img] _________________ WW F1 170 (sold)

Very nice, I liked that wish we could still top land on the point at Stanwell. _________________ Sonic 165

Joe, you seem to be doing really well on your falcon, are you going to upgrade soon? how many hours do you have now? looks like you have great control and speed management. Good fun.

Not to be Mr bummer, but that looks like a big F up ready to happen. Remember Chris Muller! It is cool though. Be careful.

nope not today...
yeah Will, I'll let you in on something...last sunday I did F... up...and bad.....but I was inches from the chips, saw a glider coming from the north (distraction), then CRUNCH is what I remember hearing, instantly.....I hit the nose so hard I broke a batten from the reflex .....I'm only now confessing because yesterday I found out there IS a video of it, none of us had cameras so it didn't happen.....but I guess it did now that there is proof.....I'll post it as a "real stupid thing to do in a hang glider"....or "how not to face plant", or something along those lines......"Diev piles in"... " Diev copies Zippy".....
There is a rule not to come from the north at launch height but people do it all the time and us launch buzzers know that this can happen and usually don't time them so there is an issue....it was all my fault and I'll think twice about doing finger drags while still on the basetube.

I have to agree... this is not the first 'grab something' contest... and there's a reason people stopped having them. That reason was named Chris Muller. Look it up in the old Oz Report issues if you don't know what we're talking about...

Came in fast and low, and was reaching over the bar. Bad news bears...
Thanks for your concern airthug, i know about Muller, and we did take some safety precautions before we attempted anything. We didn't dive for 100 dollar bill attached to any secured structure, we used a regular old safety cone and gently set my gopro atop the cone. We place that cone no more than 20 feet from the cliffs edge.

Joe,
These pictures were taken at the meet where Chris Muller died. Notice any similarities to what you're doing?

Clearly you know Chris's accident was with a safety cone and an (empty) plastic bag...
why are people always negative on threads? lets just get along people
Oshi,
We are getting along (IMO). I'm hoping people will recall that almost the exact same activity killed a great and highly experienced hang glider pilot. Doing this at Fort Funston, in the vicinity of the take-off area, also puts spectators and other pilots at risk. If something bad were to happen it could jeopardize the future of the flying site. I don't think that's negative, I think it's a realistic assessment of what this activity could lead to and is therefore worthy of mention.
Thanks for your concern airthug, i know about Muller,*snip*
Ah... but you didn't appreciate it. Perhaps if you had felt the vibrations through your feet when he hit...?
Flying face-down, at ground level, with one hand off the control frame, and the focus on a non-flying expositional competitive task, are a circumstance in no way negated by your perceived safeguards. Meet organizers didn't respond to Chris's demise by saying 'how can we make this grab-game safer?' You should wonder why.
'How will I look (on camera)' should be the last thing on your mind when near the ground. GoPro and its ilk have been a huge boon for HG education, community- and need not be a contributing factor to well documented Darwin Awards.
