WOW one lucky pilot. Reminds me of the C4 pilot in Australia who launched without attaching the pull back. he also survived and landed unharmed to him or the glider. _________________ Sonic 165

What was wrong with that? Thats what wheels on an aircraft are for; take offs and landings. And better off to be oblivious to the major structural damage...stay calm, enjoy the flight and put her down without a care in the world.
Truly remarkable that he didn't notice the downtube while flying. I would have thought it would be glaringly obvious, but maybe not...? _________________ H4 + various skills (only foot-launch so far)

we have VHS video of a guy at yosemite, same thing happend.....glider got infront of him immediately....could not catch up....bounces off launch......parachute falls out........he flies away.......a few seconds later the chute opens _________________ TSA, DHS, NDAA and SOPA Seig Heil!
The launch is much like Yosemite. Let gravity help. Stand on the steepest part instead of the flat. Mistake #1. Then it went on from there.
4 of us went up earlier and then two or three truck loads followed about 2hrs later. Late in the day the winds switch and pilots flew off the Burn launch in light and varible conditions getting to 10k or so. I slightly tweak my back from picking up something so we took it easy the rest of the day and flew the next two days.
EXTREMELY LUCKY!!
It does goes to show the topless are very strong gliders. That 360 near the end was just as scary.
Somebody was watching over you my friend....
Big hugs to you and may I never see another video like that.
I would cut down all those lower wire grabbing bushes B-4 I would ever fly that hill. Scary _________________ H-4. The Mt Hough/Crystal Lake launch is fairly technical, and really unforgiving. I was amazed that anyone could survive a blown launch there. The cliff is nearly vertical, with a very rocky face.
Certainly some bush trimming needed to be done. That 'was' probably the last flyng weekend for the season for most. There still maybe a few guys going up.
There was some excitement over the weekend. Sunday morning Bob, myself, my sister and hubby went to Crystal Lake which the lake u see down below. First thing in the morning the clouds forming were showing signs of vigra. they were very fuzzy from the get the go. I did not think much other than I did turn to Bob and told him that 'somebody' will get wet today.
Pilots got alot more than they bargin for.....
Glad nobody got hurt and everybody gain some new experiences. Some good experience some I am sure will not want to experience that again.
Happy flying!!
I learned something about the vigra clouds forming and what they really meant. Just glad i was not in the air when that came thru.

The 360 at the end was crazy. That must have ben a mile sq LZ and he's doing a tip dragging 360. I guess some pilots don't know how to make a long straight approach.
