Loved your Ord to Indio video with the narration, one of the most enjoyable I've ever seen. I watch all of yours.... not this one.

I have had a lot of pilots ask me to make videos that are under 3 minutes and with rapid editing. And so I made this video exactly to order.
I have had a significant but slightly smaller number of pilots directly ask me to lose the music and get rid of the voice-over and switch back to to live narration with all of the stress and frustration and emotions that go on. And so i did this 28-minute, 2-part video for these pilots.
Then there's the pilot who works for a major television studio new media division who has watched every one of my videos at least once and was last working w/ a major manufacturer on sponsoring a reality series including live hang gliding adventures. He also wanted more of the gritty stuff and I so I produced it.
I have liked very much other videos of yours. One from Laguna SD comes to mind. The ones from Kings were also nice.
Thanks for the feedback. Another thing I didn't mention was that I originally intended to make this a 30 or 60-second teaser composed only of 2-second vignettes set to a short PJ Harvey tune. Then it grew into something else so I went ahead and rendered and posted it. I still plan on a longer, slower version so viewers can relax and enjoy the scenery just like in the Mt. Laguna to Hemet Lake video. Just watched it and now I am dying for Laguna XC season to resume.
Something I have learned over the years is to make the video that I would want to watch. If other people like it then it is a bonus.
When I first started flying I started making 20 minute videos of me flying up and down the coast and in the flush of a new pilot I really enjoyed watching them. Now 7 years down the track I would not watch 20 minutes of any type of hanggliding video. One of the reasons I rarely watch vimeo videos because you cannot skip through the video unless you wait for the whole video to download. At least youtube lets you skip the boring bits.
A good take off, a good landing with a bit of interest in between is my goal now.
I now make my videos 6-10 minutes maximum and really try to add some commentary to let people know what I am experiencing or to pass on some tips. _________________ Sonic 165

Very well stated Robert. Here's a video I recently did in under 2-1/2 minutes upon request of the PG pilot in the video so that his mom and dad would sit through the whole thing.
It was a 90-minute flight at a site I haven't flown in 37 years. The short edit went over very well and so I thought I'd see if I could take a 2-1/3-hour long semi-epic flight and crunch the whole thing down into a rapid-fire series of 2-second vignettes using hard cuts and no fades.
Another thing I thought I try to do with the Owens footage is using much fewer and longer vignettes with long fades. So many things to try and so little time to fly.

Exactly to order? Unless they said they want cookie-cutter cuts every 2 sec for an entire video, then 'exactly' is a bit of an overstatment...

I understand that you mean well and want to help but please, please please try a different approach. Here are just a few simple suggestions:
- Ask questions before shooting
- Be 'interested' in order to be 'interesting'
- Learn and master the fine art of listening
- See things from the other person's point of view
- Walk a mile in the other man's shoes
Now, to answer your question--
I watched my experimental 2-second edit video about 11 times over various mediums including 3 different resolutions on YouTube and on Vimeo and direct from the source file. I have enjoyed it equally or more each time.
Now here's something you may not know--each 2-second interval was carefully selected from 2 hours of raw footage. Many of the intervals took as long as 5 minutes just to select using a whittling-down process. At least 10 intervals were deleted by the time I got to the 5th iteration of editing.
You see there is nothing wrong with cookies all cut from the same exact cutter when the dough is home-made from hand-made and hand-selected ingredients and laid carefully laid out by hand with an eye to their placement on the presentation tray. .
And another thing you may or may be aware of is that a lot of folks hate fast-paced banjo and fiddle music. However, a lot of folks love it. Had I taken the exact same video and changed the musical genre it may have had an entirely different effect on your perception and reaction. And then again, maybe not.
Meanwhile I am looking forward to doing a completely different edit and soundtrack from the same two hours of raw footage. You see son, my head explodes all right. It explodes with ideas and there is only one of me to implement them.

Doug, I remember watching this fine video when you first posted it and thinking to myself that it was one of the first HD quality Owens valley videos posted to date and had some great scenery. A real good taste of the Owens experience.
