With so much empty space why in hell would you choose to do that, especially on a Paraglider which you can virtually land anywhere. _________________ Sonic 165

Did you see that descent rate? It begs the question, how do you safely land a speed glider? _________________ http://pjwings.blogspot.com/ |

Something's not quite right about that video...that descent rate seems greater than, and the glide ratio seems less than, that of a skydiving chute. _________________ Saturn 147, Predator 142 |

He did what basically looks like a barrel-roll... I think sky divers call them hook-turns?
It's used to get a longer/faster ground skim... _________________ Ryan Voight

So had he not plowed into the bushes we would have seen a long/ fast ground skim as a result of that plunge to the ground? That's one helluva intense technique for getting "improved skim." _________________ Saturn 147, Predator 142 |

The same way you land a wingsuit: throw your parachute. _________________ H4 + various skills (only foot-launch so far)

Looks like he was doing the Show-off Dance.
Not much 'ground skimming' in the end! |

| it looks like the guy in the original video was trying to drop it into ground effect in-between the houses, then shoot down the street. |

At first I thought he had just made a mistake planning his approach... but now that you mention it I bet you're right. His girlfriend probably lives there... only now she's pissed at him for mangling her bush.

Hook turns are the one of the biggest killers of skydivers in the modern era. Here's a typical fatality report; more can be found at http://www.uspa.org/USPAMembers/Safety/AccidentReports/tabid/81/Default.aspx:
"At approximately 200 to 300 feet, this jumper initiated a hard, left-hand toggle turn in an attempt to make a high-performance landing. There were no canopies nearby or any other obstacles that would have required him to make a turn as an avoidance measure. He struck the ground hard while the canopy was still in a steep descent."
In the speedglider's case he hit the bush; two foot lower and he would have hit the concrete it was planted in. _________________ Dan
