Why is there no rating for FLPHG when there are other ratings for towing (scooter towing, platform towing, and aero towing). you can kill the engine and soar all you want. It's made me better at finding thermals and staying up without power. I think it would bring more people to the sport especially people that live far away from flying sites!

There is in Australia and it's currently under review.

The main thing that the Motorised rating tests is your ablity to read a VTC. (I think they're called "sectionals" in the USA).

The idea being that you're more likely to be flying on your own without the resources of "locals" who know the local airspace without having to look at a map.

There's also a practical test which basically proves that you can take off without killing yourself or walking into the prop, but of course seeing as it's a single place aircraft, you learn by doing to a large extent.

=:)

Lock a diver in an empty room for an hour with three ball bearings. On your return, one will be lost, one will be broken and one will be stolen.

If you're referring to the USHPA, they seem to shy away from anything that has to do with a motorized glider. They do hold the exemption for aerotowing, but that's about it.

Because there once was I think and you were even insured but then USHPA got the bright Idea of annexing the 350 member FanMan Association under the same rules and insuring them too just to boost our numbers slightly, there was a big war in 2002ish over this and now no Motors are insured or regulated by USHPA .
Its more trouble than its worth and a big potential for trouble, cant insure the Misquito power harness without the FanMans saying what about us, those guys are in the news a dozen times a year hanging from Powerlines somewhere needing rescued.
All we need is the following video being linked to and insured by USHPA to wipe us out.

Hey Wadams14,

Your video is real cool and I'm not knocking the power harness I want one, but what I wrote above is the story of what happened in 2002 to answer your question. All was fine and the Doodlebug and Misquito were insured until the USHPA decided to invite in and insure a whole other association of FanMans that had never been USHPA members and a war broke out over it and I agree with the outcome. If the guy in the boxing match stunt was an Insured USHPA member the association would have been sued for at least 5million $ just for the disruption to the fight. And just a few months ago a FanMan almost took down a hot air Balloon full of passengers got tangled in the balloons guide ropes that was all over the news. Google FanMan/powered parachute accident for 100's more examples. Its not you and the Misquito its the whole can of worms the idea opens.

In Canada, powered harnesses are considered ultralights therefore the pilot needs to follow an MOT training course (modified ultralight training or the full ultralight course), get a license, get airplane (ultralight) insurance, and have posted numbers on the harness.

Yeah, have to agree with you Gregg. Best just to leave it alone. Besides, all it
would be is just another set of abbreviation on the card at a very high expense.

Why do you want a rating for this? Is there anything it will allow you to do? Since you've got your own stuff with FLPHG, seems like you don't really need any credentials to show anybody, you just go fly.

Then there would be a need for rating for prop / jet propulsion / tandem, ect.

Yup.

I'm with jjcote here... why do you want regulation?
Aren't we always running away from red tape?... not towards it?

Exactly!!! I alway thought those FanMans were stupid for wanting USHPA enforcing a bunch of growth killing over regulation on them just to get our cheap insurance when they were flying pretty much any time any place they wanted as is, they were gonna sell thier soul to the devil for insurance.

I heard of a parachute landing in the ring but didn't know it was really a Fanman until now, or as I like to think of them as "dope on a rope". ahh
Had our local salt flat shut down last year because of them flying low over houses and main roads, they love an audience like moths to a light.

Have enjoyed watching your vids Wadams, I fly PHG as well, opens up a lot of options, defiantly gets me through those long dry spells.
