I was told by an Owens Valley local many years ago that DUST is one of the most CARSINOGENIC substances known to man!
That sh-t is in the air every time there's wind or thermals.
Check the cancer statistics for the Lone Pine area. Not good.
Why do you suppose the cameras are there? |

| My first trip there in the early '80's I was down to 8K, about 4K agl, and stumbled into a real boomer. Went from 8 to 18.5 in less than 5 minutes. No oxygen, When I went through 17.5 I knew I had to get out, but to say I was a bit apprehensive about leaving it is an understatement. Vario was on the 2K fpm peg the whole time. Fun, yeah, but scary as hell. Up 'til then I'd never experienced lift that fast. |

Yikes! I imagine at first you were like, yeehaw! And then the "Oh Sh**!!" set in.
Going over that waterfall might have been ugly... _________________ Freedom 170 FR |

Wow, pretty interesting. In a few it looks as if the clouds literally bite the dirt (eat the dust). Did some quick searching around and found this website:

Time lapse clouds. Some vids are quite interesting/informative for what we do. _________________ U2 160 • Chattaroy, WA - USA |

Yeah I was plenty apprehensive about leaving it, but I just leveled out, pulled in a bit, and it turned out to be a non-event. Kinda weird in a way. |

Love the Owens! Favorite place to fly.... but those timelapse video's were SCARY!!! I've had some experiences out there, but nothing that would scare the S**T out of me to see events like that coming at me from down the range.
Wow... Nice link. |
