So how old is your hang glider. In spring i will fly my fathers old Vega pr16 wich is 25 years old. Cant afford new glider . It just feels safer when i know that someone else flyes so old gliders.

A few months old (of a new design...eighth one made or so). My previous wing was 17 years old. The difference in performance is huge, and ease of handling is improved. I had some fun on the old wing, but much more on the new one. Save your pennies! Is your wing in good condition? _________________ formerly Airwave Calypso

I have two UP Comets, serial #'s 527 and 982.
They were probably built in 1981.
I like to play with them occasionally. I've changed the airfoil by re-shaping the battens, I don't recommend doing this but I enjoy experimenting.
Down in the LZ one time a new hang 2 or 3 pilot was amazed to watch me fly a glider several years older than he was. It's fun to show people how little real difference there is between these gliders and what is being made today,. |

Hi,
My Impuls 17 (Like a WW Falcon) was build in 1987 but i feel absolutely safe with it because it has recently been checked....
Maybe when i have finished my training and got the license i will buy a new(er) one, but i really like my Wing.

mine is a 92 airwave k4.
fly this glider since 2000.then out of the spor since 2009 and not good storage.
when i came back i did a full inpection and the same i am doing right now.
everything seems ok.
i think if you make new side wires and of course a full inspection or change some bolts is ok until you can buy something newer.
same thing i try to do.
try to have at least a good harness with new chute that you keep for your next
glider.
fly safe.. _________________ APCO Fuga

Depends on the wing and how well it's been taken care of and how well it performed in it's day...
You might not want to fly any higher them you want to fall _________________ "Tow me up. I'll find my way down"

| I fly a Mark IV from the late 1980's. Flies like a champ, but a Sport 2 would be a nice treat. Mark IV is nice and airworthy though. |

I have had two mark IV's too.
(It's a great glider although I do like the updated pulse(my current glider) alittle better)
The oldest glider I have ever owned would either be a Bill Bennett 220 Dream or a Moyes 142 xs. I no longer have the gliders, so no way of telling the manufacter date. My guess is the Dream was older. I still see alot of really nice dreams(was produced by 2 other companies after Bennett) out at torrey
(Now you can even get new sails for the dream series)
I would still fly all three of those glider designs if they were in the right condition..... _________________ Help preserve Hang Gliding at Torrey Pines

The oldest glider in my quiver is my first 16' standard, bought new in 1974. Weighs 28 pounds and is as airworthy as the day it was made..... I weighted 95 pounds when I bought it, and now tip the scales at 170, so needless to say, I don't fly it any more although I did set it up last summer for my kids to ground handle.... The second oldest would be a 209 Raven, circa 1980. Still a very nice flying glider, and one I wouldn't have a problem taking up.... The rest are relatively modern: a Gemini ('81?) , my wife's WW Sport 155 ('87), a Ramair 146 ('94) , and my current T2C.

My glider is a Moyes Ventura that was made I think, in 1999. It's a great first wing that, I am told, has some decent soaring potential. As soon as the wx breaks I intend to explore its soaring ability. Ok, I intend to explore my soaring abaility first, then my glider's.
I bought my wing from a very repuatable instructor with some very helpful input from a lot of the guys here. It had a full sail off inspection and is in great shape. _________________ What a beautiful day! Let's go jump off a mountain!!!

Ha! My old Lark, Bobcat II, Osprey and other stuff are still sitting in storage somewhere.
I think the Cirrus 3 (1976) and Sensor 210E (1980 May Cover of Hang Gliding Magazine with Jack Harvey flying it) are somewhere in Maine. Right, Davey boyeeee? |
