Lets see you've never been to Lookout, you don't know any of the instructors or their methods and I'm guessing you've never really flown with any Lookout pilots and in spite of your monumental ignorance you still have an OPINION that Lookout isn't a safe place to learn ...

I'd like to see some of the doubters come out and fly with us.

Thank goodness someone finally had the courage to say it!!! This is the very reason I know longer post anything whatsoever about my learning experiences on here. I just get so sick of hearing about how incompetent LMFP is...basically what is really being said is that the pilots learning at Lookout are just as incompetent.

Well since we are being courageous for saying some sheit....I will say this:

I have heard people say:

"LOOKOUT!!!!"...... H2!!

When refering to SOME (not all) pilots that come out of LMFP. Why is that?

I would LOVE to see more LMFP H2 pilots fly Morningside. Last one I saw damn near killed himself off the 150 launch. (Maybe he was expecting me to hold his keel?)

I KNOW I can fly LMFP. Can you fly Morningside?

Be a PILOT, not a POSER!!

touche!

So now you are judging me and you don't even know me...you are a rude person! punch

ROFL

You just wrote the most incredible run on sentance in the whole entire world that if someone tried to speak outloud they would pass out from lack of oxygen and when asked what happened the EMS would look up on the computer screen and see YOUR sentence and then they would try to do it and THEY would pass out too.

And you call me ignorant? Surely not to my face. Jaime.

Whatever. SURVIVE your launches and keep drinking the LMFP cool aid.

I'll put my $0.02 in since I did learn and LMFP and have quite a few flights there. Like I said before, I think the instruction up to the 10th mountain flight is really good, and yea maybe they could improve some, but overall its not bad. My problem is after that, you're kinda on your own. I think you get better instruction aerotowing at LMFP than foot launching because when you tow, you're attached to a plane with a pilot who can give you advice about how you're towing, and you have ground crew which can also give you advice. Honestly, for a long time, I was more comfortable and felt safer aerotowing at LMFP than I did going off the ramp.

That said, people claiming they could fly the LMFP or Henson's ramp just as good as anyone else without ever having been on it are full of it. There have been many accidents at LMFP and Henson's from people unfamiliar with the launch, and unfortunately there was even a fatality not long ago due to lack of familiarity with the ramp and techniques required to safely launch off the ramp.

Its not fair of those who have never flown LMFP to criticize the instruction and how things are done there. I don't bash on Morningside or anywhere else because I've never flown there and have no basis on which to do it. Yes, I do pick on LMFP some because I did learn there and I have flown there a lot, I feel that gives me the right to criticize it.

Whats the matter? You throw down the gauntlet and when someone picks it up you don't like what comes back at you?

As far as I am concerned, YOU insulted US by assuming WE couldn't fly with YOU!

Did I read it wrong? Maybe, but that is what it looks like to me.

Please don't bury. This is Theresa's thread and she is looking for legitimate advice. I was just posting my own personal opinion that I don't believe she is getting it here because she trained at Lookout and there is a lot of anti Lookout sentiment being posted.

As Keith said, if you trained there or fly there then you would have more reason for critique of the school. Otherwise, it just comes off as being arrogant and unfriendly- and then no one is listening to any advice. And if we are all doing it all wrong, well, I would really like for someone to please, please, please come show us how to do it correctly. Seriously! Just saying it on here everytime someone posts something doesn't teach anyone anything.

Too far.

I've seen students from pretty much every major school nearly kill themselves at one point or another... maybe all the schools are unsafe? Maybe hang gliding is unsafe, and not all students are created equal. This thread is evidence alone that proper information can be placed in a student's hands, but not in their heads... that's on them.

That said, I *did* have a visiting pilot from LMFP nearly kill themselves launching while visiting UT. They took four steps and laid down (I'd imagine like they usually do off the ramp(s)). But that's not Lookout's fault... that's that pilot's fault!!!

Didn't you land in a ditch at Morningside? popcorn

And didn't you share your videos where you were popping the nose a bit and launching with a high AofA, the same thing we're commenting on LMFP students doing? Did you learn from LMFP? Or maybe you learned somewhere else unsafe, that taught you to pop your nose? Or maybe they taught you right (I know your instructor, and know they did), and you just didn't execute?

No matter how much we know, we never know it all. And knowing it doesn't mean we always do it right anyways. A student could have the best instructor in the world and still have bad habits.

As I said in my last post- I think the ramp is so forgiving (not a bad thing in itself) that it builds bad habits (which is a bad thing when flying anywhere else).

No matter what type of flying we do the most of, we have pros and cons in our skillset. When I fly the Point a lot, I feel rusty in the mountains. When I fly the mountains a lot, I feel rusty at the Point. Learning to fly on the sand dunes in Kitty Hawk is excellent, but it doesn't prepare you for no wind launches at 10,000 ft. Learning on a radial ramp doesn't prepare you for a flat slope launch. Learning on a Falcon doesn't prepare you for a T2

I think we are beyond learning something here. That is why I voted to bury.

Theresa I hope you keep posting videos. thumbsup

Legitimate advice has been offered, it just seems she (and others) don't want to hear it Rolling Eyes

If people keep posting videos with the same mistakes being made, they're going to keep hearing the same thing (until people give up on trying to help, then it will just get quite like this thread seemed to- before the trash talk flared up)

I'm not voting to bury, but I'm not encouraged to continue offering advice (of which I usually charge for, by the way, I am a professional instructor and need to pay my bills so I can continue helping people that actually want help).

Yes, some legitimate advice has been offered. But that advice can't be seen when most of the posts are about how incompetent the school is. Personally, I can tell you that I have seen pilots come to Lookout that trained elsewhere and have near misses-as you said it is the pilot's responsibility to be safe. I have been hanging around that school for quite some time and have seen a lot of people get trained up there and no matter what people like to portray on this forum, they are trying to run a safe school.

I do believe there are some members on this forum who genuinely care about the safety of the other pilots. I also believe, however, that there are a few people here that would like nothing better than to bash Lookout every chance they get. Surely, you can see that too.

Yea, that seems inevitable on an online forum. BobK has proposed many times that I am anti-hang gliding Shocked

At least no one's been called a Nazi yet on this thread... although it's probably only a matter of time until I become the 'Angle of Attack Nazi" Rolling Eyes

Hopefully everyone knows you can't believe everything you read on the internet... and not every accusation needs rebuttal. When they go too far (see above), rest assured you won't be the only one chiming in thumbsup
