I asked my buddy Jared, who blogs and creates content for the very popular www.Cinema5d.com web site, to come up to Santa Barbara and help shoot a little mini Zippy promo film I'm working on. He took the opportunity to also shoot a short piece for the web site, check it out -

http://www.cinema5d.com/news/?p=4383

...still working on mine.

As some of you may know, Zippy is one hell of a pilot and a better person. He is also a full time instructor doing tandem and bunny hill training primarily in Santa Barbara but has been spending a lot of time at Andy Jackson Airpark lately utilizing the new Big-O-Loop. So when Zippy posted on Facebook that he was looking for sponsors, I jumped at the opportunity. Details about that on my blog - http://dfocussystem.blogspot.com/2010/07/dfocus-announces-sponsorship-deal-with.html

I would like to purchase a copy or two. This is the stuff you use to push..I mean share this sport. Let me know when I can support the cause.

Cool video, I look forward to seeing yours. Smile I didn't realize D|Focus was yours. That's cool! The T2i is pretty heavy for a flying camera but I guess it's no big deal when it's mounted to the control frame. I never use counterbalances for my cameras when I fly but I would think that that camera on the keel would need one. I just got one and it takes some pretty nice shots straight out of the box. It came with an 18-55 mm lens and I also picked up a 55-250 zoom. I've only had it out a few times and I haven't shot any video or taken it flying yet but here's a dragonfly pic with no correction. I want to take it flying just to shoot stills but there's no doubt that would be the flight that I pound in on. Laughing

Very nice Dave, you can really see the extra dynamic range of a DSLR compared to my Panasonic TZ7/SZ3. I will say though you can see how 720 is quiet capable of producing good quality video instead of thinking you have to go to 1080 to get it.

It is. The GH1 with Panasonic's 7-14mm lens is probably the best in-flight combo at the moment, not cheap though. Weighs about 1.5 lbs, still a bit heavy for some things. You would want a counter weight in the nose if it was back on the keel. I flew with it on my right wing on Wednesday with a 2 lb counter balance in the other wing. The glider handled quite poorly but I got some nice stills:

Also, the GH1's 720 60p mode is (in my experience) superior to that of the T2i or the 7D, especially with the firmware hank on the GH1.
