Almost without exception (I can only think of a couple) the finish gates of SG events have been in the LZ.
I remember Aspen couldn't be at the bottom because the town was at the bottom. We went through the gate and then did a Uturn and landed going up the ski slope.
The only class required to be below the finish gates have so much speed going through the finish that they can climb out and set up a normal final. Whacks not required.

For those going out tomorrow I thought I would post another aerial with the course marked around the pylons. I'll still get everyone a more detailed closeup of the course, but not tonight and this will at least give everyone a better chance of finding it.
Rookie Detour info:
The blue tarp that I put out for you at TP#1 is shaped like an arrow (as best I could ) to the left. This is because TP#3 is also staring you straight in the face and I wanted to remind you to turn left and go get TP#2.
Again .. Rookies, when you fly out from the start gate you will soon encounter TWO blue tarps that are not very far apart. Remember to turn left at the first one.
General notes:
It's possible that tarps will be blown around in the wind and won't be perfectly flat (or arrow shaped). We've weighted them down with rocks but the wind is a mighty thing. Also, rememeber that the (A) gates are only 10ft high currently and will only be raised to 20ft on the day of the event. Practice accordingly.
There is only one pylon (the turnpoint side) at the 300ft hill. This is because we didn't want to obstruct the launch until game day. Please practice as if the 300ft wind sock is the other gate (it won't be far from there in the end).
There is no finish gate -- we didn't want to obstruct the landing field. Please practice as if the finish gate is at the spot landing location straight out from the primary walkthrough. In the end it will be very near this spot.
Open Class -- be careful first trip through the start gate. You will have to spot the first TP *before* you dive for the gate. This first TP goes out of sight as you go through the gate and it will be quite a distance of freakin' fun and fast low to the ground strafing before it will come into view. Make sure you know which way to aim as you come out of the gate or you'll arrive at TP#1 out of position.
Have no fear about being able to fit into the LZ after the finish gate. Even if you stay in ground effect (and I don't recommend you do), there is plenty of room in the LZ. Just aim slightly to the right and run up the hill towards the gate at the very far corner of the LZ. There is ZERO chance that you can make it up that hill to the gate and run out of room. The best approach however will be to pop up after the finish gate, get unzipped and drop the VG while fading to the right and them make a sharp left and land going towards the far training hill (the one beyond the 0090 gate). Lots of room this way and you clear the course before you even touchdown.
Have fun and fly safe. Most of you will likely freak at how fast you are going to have to fly. I suspect that the average speed will be over 60mph for the open class and the top speed on course will likely be in the 80mph range. (if it's flown right, the fastest spot will be just before (A)TP#4.
Remember, if your sail isn't getting warm, it ain't Speedgliding. May the smell of burning polyesters fill the air.

More thoughts this morning for those going out to practice.
Course Entry Gate for the Open Class: Fly through the gates below the tops of the 20ft pylons. Immediately after flying through the gates you are not allowed to turn the speed you are carrying into altitude. You may slow down gradually to whatever speed you wish, but you can't push out quickly and climb. The whole point of this gate is to equalize everyone to the same altitude no matter where they launched. If I allow pilots to dive at the gate and then recover some of that altitude, some of the advantage will remain for the closer launch. If you want to avoid a zero score, just fly straight and level out of the gate for a few seconds and then you'll be free to set up your run into the start gate as you wish.
Course Entry Gate for the Kingpost Class: I know that for inexperience and safety reasons we have freed you from the altitude restrictions of the (A) gates, but in the interest of fairness to every competitor I going to include just one altitude restriction or you and it is at this gate. For this class I will require you to be below twice the height of the pylons (40ft). I know there won't be any 40ft pole there for you to judge by so we will be lenient on our judgment as well. Bottom line -- make and obvious and safe attempt at that 40ft 'gate' and we'll give you the round ... blow it off and you'll get a zero. Like the Open class, just hold straight and level for a few seconds after that gate and you're then good to set up your run as you wish.
Course Entry Gate for the Rookie Class: It doesn't exist for this class -- fly straight to the start gate.
Start Gate for the Open Class: Be between the poles and some portion of the wing or pilot must be below the tops of the 20ft pylons. The left pylon (blue tarp) is considered the turnpoint for this gate and all turnpoint rules apply to it.
Start Gate for the Kingpost Class: Same as above, but without the altitude restriction.
Start Gate for the Rookie Class: Fly between the poles at any altitude. The right pylon (red tarp) is considered the turnpoint for this gate and all turnpoint rules apply to it.
Have fun and fly safe.

From climbing out right there with all that speed we can set up a "normal" final to land where?
here is how I was hopping it would turn out....
(hope you don't mind me steeling you pic and editing it and re-uploading it....let me know if I should take it down)
(we should have stayed on top as it eventually was good and we could have gotten two off the top...instead I did a short run off the six)
we were productive up there and fixed the wind sock....we now have our very own CRV pole to hold the sock....

Cool Redbeard!
It'll be fun to have you there...
I've added a "Pilot List" on the first page of this thread (below the bug-eyed gonzo pilot), and will be adding names as they come in...it'll be interesting to see how many pilots register for this event...

There's a slim chance that Catherine and I might make the trip.
We are in the process of getting a new roof on the Lodge, but just waiting for
the white stuff to melt off.
I've got a 71lb mean machine that would just love to run the course.
