#1 |
For years I have used this to view animated satellite images of clouds:
http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/satellite/view.cgi?v=2&m=1&c=1&l=10&r=52&z=1&o=52
Its great for seeing if cirrus activity or a cloud deck is present in the area you are considering driving to. However, for some months, it has been acting very strange... you'll see what I mean if you go there and look at the animation.
I'm curious to see if anyone knows of any other sites that show something similar to this. They must be animated. The usairnet version also will show you the visible picture, and the IR picture which is nice for checking early in the morning before the sun has come up. You can also zoom in and out etc. Would really like to find another resource for this!

Can you give us a clue to what is acting odd? I'm not seeing anything particularly unexpected. I do see something very minor, but I think I understand it's cause.

Would this work?
http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Map.aspx?location=USCA0706&weather=radarSmooth
To see cloud cover you'll have to turn on the following options from the pull down windows at the top of the image:
Base Maps/Satellite (Brown)
AND
Layers/HD Satellite (Beta)
AS WELL AS
On the menu in the lower right corner increase Opacity Level to 10 and "Press Play to Start".

Campers,
This is NOAA Doppler radar.
http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?product=NCR&rid=MTX&loop=yes
Type in your city and state, and hit the Go button.
Scroll down and click on the Radar and Satellite Images (either one).
If you scroll down the satellite page, you can get images for clouds, Infrared, Fog, et c.
If you click the Zoom button on the satellite images, then click on the image
where you want to Zoom in on. Click the image again, to Zoom in further.
On the radar maps, left-click to Zoom in, right-click to Zoom out.
Click-and-drag on the radar map, to move the map in any direction.
On the left side of the radar image, click on the
Reflectivity, Composite, Loop
or
Rainfall, 1-Hour Total, Loop
Give the computer time to load ten images.
(You can bookmark your results, for future reference.)
P.S. Nibs, what do you see as strange, on your animated site?

In IE and Firefox, this is what I see.... it makes it completely unusable.
Untuckable, thanks that one looks pretty good!
Frank that one looks good too.
Red, I just tried yours, and it's doing that really funky thing just like the other site I use does, where it looks like picture-in-picture. Must be something screwy with my computer.... maybe a problem with my Java installation. Going to un-install and re-install Java.... see if that helps

| Uninstalling and re-installing Java didn't fix it. It does that in IE and Firefox. Really scratching my head on this one

Nibs,
All looks good, here. Sun/Java came out with a latest/greatest update a few months ago. Download for Win-doze:
http://www.java.com/en/download/inc/windows_upgrade_xpi.jsp
Test your Java installation here (this link works automagically; just click, give it a minute, and you should see "Your Java is Working"):

| Thanks Red, that's the installation of Java I am running now. It's still messed up. I have posted to a Java developer's forum in hopes that one of the experts can figure it out.

Just in case:
Download (the free version), install, check for updates and run 'Quick Scan':
http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Same for everybody's PC if they don't have it already...)
An online scan that "Detects insecure versions of common/popular programs installed on your PC"++ :
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online/
Also try clearing out your browsers cache, or try:
