Another great video from Carm.

Interesting that more single-surface gliders flew that trip. Is there a reason for that or just the luck of the draw?

Also, does anyone ever get to or manage to fly over half-dome or over the falls?

Thx. It is so hard to put together something that is short but still tells a story.

I think it is just 'easier' to fly a single surface glider. If you do fly a double surface then you can explore a little more. I believe Todd flying an older sport flew to El Capt -well pass the LZ. He came back to the LZ with plenty of altitude. I could not get him on my P/S camera.

I have heard of soaring flights of an hour long flight. A DS glider can certainly turn right and head to the Vernal falls. Just make sure you make it back and land in the designated LZ. You can not see the LZ until you make the corner.

Jason and crew were heading there this last weekend flying their hot ships.

people like to fly big floaters there

launch is always no wind (in my experience) at 7200 feet and you only get 3-5 steps, the LZ is also no wind at 4k feet with tall grass hiding holes. When i was there last weekend of the 13 pilots that flew only 3 were high performance (me sensor 610f2, my dad t2c, my brother litespeed) the rest were either falcons, or beginner double surface wings (spectrum/saturn) When i flared my keel caught in the tall grass and bent(behind the wires, snapping the tail fin in the process-fortunately on day 2)

People have gotten high then half dome. and over a few waterfalls.

When i was there on the 18th/19 i got to yosemite falls about 300 feet below the top on my old sensor. I was getting about 13/1 on glide there so a modern high performance could make it over that falls. the Falls across the way (nevada/vernal) require about 11/1 to make it over Nevada and back to the LZ. Illieutte Falls is an easy glide from launch on a high performance and doable on a beginner double surface

if carm doesn't mind here are a few snapshots from the video i took sat/sun a writeup is in the works as it was the first time a father and two sons have flown there

they are just frames taken from video

its not duct tape, its electrical tape. the main steel biner goes thru the harness/chute bridal and hangstrap, the secondary biner(AL) just goes thru the harness/chute The electrical tape keeps everything in position so i can't hang from the gate of the main biner and things don't flop around

If you take a bike tire tube and cut a 1-2 inch section out, it makes for a nice rubber version of that, without the sticky mess thumbsup

I like DxD's response... backup! ROFL

Beautiful!

Tx Carm!

It was nice meeting you and Rex .

We got a little wild on the river, sorry if we left a wrong impression,

but that's we do out there on wild...

Other than that we are good people.

Any time you venture down to SoCal, make sure to visit Sylmar HG Club.

We'll be happy to have you around, take you up and fly with you, guys.

Great video, we love it.

We had a great time. I think we were a little conservative over the weekend. We had fun though! That early morning wake call sucks!!

I really need to work on the on board video camera. I like the onboard and ground footage.

I am glad to hear about the HD for the gopro. mosh

That BBQ was awesome. drool You can not say enough about the rafting trip. Laughing The flying is icing on the cake. Wink

Next time!
