I had two dogs that were about 1.5 years apart. Babe (a 13 yr old boxweiler) crossed the Rainbow Bridge on March 7, 2007 and in some respects, that was harder b/c she got sick w/ cancer and I had to make the decision to have her put down. Nikki, on the other hand, seemed relatively healthy until 2 AM Friday morning when she started hacking up blood. She died at 6 AM the same morning with me holding her and telling her how much she was loved. She was a good girl and good girls always know when it's time to leave the room.
The biggest difference for me is that I still had Nikki to lean on when Babe passed away. Now my house seems like an empty and lonely place and will probably stay that way until I get my next clan of dogs and we start the cycle all over again. It's part of the bargain we make when we give our hearts to a dog (or cat) to break. |
I tried to wait awhile before getting another dog, but when Max (a six-month old rescue boxer) came along, my resolve melted, along with my heart.

Stan the Man was 23.5 lbs. when we got him. He had gnarly, matted dreadlocks on his back because he couldn't reach around to groom his fur. We had to cut them off. Clearly his former owner didn't have a clue.
He was probably 19 or 20 lbs. in this photo.
Now he's at 17 lbs., and he runs, jumps and cleans himself just fine. But he's informed us he just won't lose any more weight. And you don't want to mess with Stan.
Remember, dogs have owners, cats have staff.

Great looking cat, Brian. He has a "Don't think about messin' with me" look.

Potato hills, and the lake/river to the right? and the Amish community, to the right? Has been a long time since I was there. That's the year I rode with John and Kelly Russell to Alamogordo, NM. Seems like a life time ago.

Potato Hills out front (oldest visible geological formation in Oklahoma)
Sardis Lake off to the West / right
Amish? I don't know about that?

Not sure but I thought it was cool. Someone sent it to me this morning, so I posted it. Kinda trippy to see that dog in action.

I didn't think i was a cat lover, i just put my 16 year old dog to sleep , i thought my heart was going to break ! i told my wife i didn't think i could handle having another animal . a few days later my niece needed a home for this little girl . i told my wife i really can't handle another pet. then the little kitty looked up at me with her beautiful blue eyes and blinked at me . she stole my heart we named her Sky because of her sky blue eyes. now i love two skies ! she greets me at the door every time i come home just like my doggy !
