Wow! it's a nice glider.
It was lightly rolled in off the left wingtip on landing the last time it was flown.
Allmost all the battens were bent from the inertia transfer through the wing, so I suspect I'll need to have a pro inspect the wholoe thing before it gets flown again.
All of the structure looks straight and true, leading edge; cross-bar; keel still seems to have the proper radius, no bent bolts, stripped nuts or bends in connecting hardware except a slight bend where the base bar connects and disconnects on the downtube, but no bends in the down tubes themselves. Washouts and tips had no bends.
Straightened and checked all the battens with the chart, no damaged tips or sparring in the aluminum. All wires and end connections are clean sraight and no bends. king post and hang point show no damage that I can detect.
Set up, the wings look symmetrical and the glider feels well ballanced when doing ground manuvers. Wing surface is smooth and tight on top and bottom.
Might be lucky this time.
Any advise or suggestions as always, greatly appreciated.

If it's anything like the one I flew it's got a tight sail, especially now that spanwise shrinkage of the sail has occurred. You have to high side the H-E-double Toothpicks out of it in a thermal BUT it will climb and go far if you are up to it!
I was told you can PIO when landing fast-never did on me and I like to come in hot.
I though it had an obvious yet short flare window. I only truck towed it. Towed very well.
Here's of pic of it with my buddy Scott, shortly before it was destroyed in a non flying related mishap!

Sorry to hear about the loss Wingman,
As for what I'm up-to, so far maybe five to ten feet between strides, running down my driveway.
Hope to start training soon. I've been doing a lot of reading watching and a little driving for the pilots at Mclure, they are a hearty bunch and real helpfull.
Also they have been making a lot of improvements at their site, it's looking up.
Which is where I, think I, want to go. Ah patience! F..k patience I, wanna fly somthn, ok back to the ground.
All the equipment, none of the skills to use it, but happy just to be getting the opportunity to give it a go.
best regards
Rebel

I humbly submit that unless you are a freakin "natural", this wing is too advanced to start with (I'm assuming this is what you are doing from your email). It takes some energy to fly, goes fast quickly, steers like a tank in thermals and takes a lot more attention to fly then a SS wing...
Careful out there Rebel!

I still like flying my old sport. I agree sail tension is important .It climbs
and glides well but is not as easy to coordinate in a thermal.Landing is
different due to the tight sail. The manual recomends slowing the glider
past trim to a mush then flairing. This works best for me since it's hard to
detect a flair point from trim.I would not use a sport for a training glider. It's
important to have the trim speed set right so have an experienced pilot
test fly it for you.I hope to try the sport 2 someday to see how much better
it is.

I don't think the Sport 2 and the sport have anything in common

I love my sport 167, the sail is quite tight and old though so I really want another sail to toss on my EU version (7075)....anyone have a sport 167 sail they don't need anymore?....
(I've loved how it thermals, almost by itself...and I can really toss it around...they must of all had the american version)

| Had a nice Sport 167 in the late 80's... I really liked it.... took me up past 17K feet over Telluride. Then again, you could soar a picnic table on a good day at Telluride.
